Some SEO History
If Indiana Search Engine Optimization seems like a far-out, new concept in online marketing, consider some of it’s interesting history:
Back in 1996 (that’s 12 years ago already), SEO was beginning to be practiced in the U.S., but internet use was still in it’s infancy. Websites took forever to load in those days, and broadband connectivity hadn’t even emerged! Back then, the main search engine was Alta Vista.
Google went by the name Backrub - if you can believe that! - and it was only just being developed in a college dorm room. The other main search engines were MSN, Lycos, Excite, Yahoo, Netscape and Info Seek. In 1996, it was relatively easy to get listed in the search engines, and it took very little time to achieve a high ranking.
As the world wide web exploded into homes and offices the world over, search engine optimization companies began learning tricks of the new trade and developing techniques and marketing standards to help companies compete online for targeted visitors. The practice continues to grow, change, and become more innovative and competitive today.
