Any information contained in the web site; written information, music, forms, etc.

 

Copywriting:

Writing that is specially geared towards users on the Internet with specific information. 

 

Domain Name:

A registered original name that is specific only to your web site.  Domain names do have an expiration date; usually one year.

 

E-commerce:

Electronic online commerce.  It is the art of conducting business on the Internet.

 

FAQ’s:

Frequently asked questions only unique to your products or services.

 

Frames:

A method of dividing the browser window into smaller windows.  The navigation bars will remain on the screen while you move to another screen or area.

 

Hosting:

The ability the computer (server) has to store and serves up your requested web sites.

 

HTML (Hypertext markup language):

Coding language that is used in creating hypertext documents for the web.  It instructs the browser how a web page should look.

 

Keywords:

Words that identify and help search engines sort through web pages on the Internet.

 

Linking:

Pressing on a highlighted link in blue automatically takes you to another location.

 

Navigation:

The ability to move around on a web site.  Easy navigation allows you to find what you’re looking for in a minimal amount of time.

 

Search Engines:

A search engine is a web site that is used to search for things on the Internet. Google and Yahoo are common examples.  By entering keywords or phrases, web sites are presented containing those keywords.

 

Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

The term refers to the ultimate way for search engines to highly rank your web site.  A site with optimization will be seen by hundreds of millions of people.  According to SearchEngineWatch.com, there are 250,000,000 searches conducted on Google alone in a single day.  Think what that would mean for Your Business!

 

Server:

A powerful computer connected to the Internet.  The server hosts web sites making them available at all times.  Users visiting your web site are really looking at your files stored on the server.

 

Usability:

Usability refers to how well users find and navigate on a web site.

 

URL (uniform resource locator):

The web site address of a web page.  The URL is a path that leads to a particular web page.
