Google Desktop
So once again I venture off into a trip across the internet; my daily usual. However, today I happened to stumble upon a very nifty, “new to me” add-on to my desktop; the Google Desktop. Unobtrusive and efficient. So cool and useful I think I may try to convince the rest of the team at Effect Web Media to download and use it as well. Be sure to visit our website to find out what else we are up to.
This is not your average ordinary widget machine, and that is coming from a mac-lover who had widgets long before they were the “in” thing. Having grown to love my aqua-styled, easily accessible reminders, I of course had some attachment issues when having to switch over to a PC while at work. Of course there is Yahoo! Widgets, which are cool too, but they don’t hide like on Dashboard for the mac. For this main reason, I abandoned the widget thing altogether; I need to save what screen real estate I can. Google Desktop actually mounts itself to the side of your screen and contains all of the Google Gadgets within, allowing you to minimize the whole thing or just the specific Gadget, keeping everything organized.
If being able to check up on the World Cup news or what the latest “Click” review, all in a heads-up display, wasn’t enough, it actually learns! If you use Google for your searches, it actually tracks what you search for, then will recommend new news feeds or Gadgets that it believes would be helpful for you. How much easier could it be to use a piece of software? So what are you waiting for, download Google Desktop now.
